MARSHFIELD – In just his third varsity game, Marshfield Columbus Catholic freshman Emmitt Konieczny made his mark on the Cloverbelt Conference.

Konieczny drilled 10 3-pointers and scored a game-high 33 points to lead the Dons to a hard-fought 78-74 overtime win over Colby in Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball action Saturday afternoon at Columbus Catholic High School.

The game was tight throughout, with Columbus leading 31-28 at halftime and regulation time ending in a 72-72 tie after a high-scoring second half.

In the extra period, the Dons outscored Colby 6-2 to pull out the win and improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Colby was playing its season opener.

Grant Olson had 15 points and Eden Jacobson chipped in 10 for Columbus Catholic.

Tucker Meyer had 15 points, Richard Streveler scored 13 and Brent Jeske had 12 for Colby.

Both teams return to action Tuesday with Cloverbelt East matchups. Columbus Catholic will host Loyal and Colby will be at home against Owen-Withee.
