MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys swim team used its depth to edge Stevens Point 85-82 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet Monday at Marshfield High School.
The Tigers won the meet despite winning only four of the 11 events, but were able to earn more second- and third-place finishes to bring up their score.
Sander Marty won the 100-yard butterfly in 58.94 seconds and Ethan Dagit took first in the 100 freestyle in 54.33 seconds for the Tigers.
Marty, Dagit, Kyle Berres and Myles Jensen won the 200 medley relay in 1:48.78, and the team of Dane Tollefson, Henry Hilbelink, Graham Lonsdale and Brayden Fischer won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:45.68 for Marshfield’s other two victories.
Parker Soik, Cade Casey and Konnor Pilger each won two individual races for Stevens Point.
Soik won the 200 individual medley (2:19.56) and the 100 breaststroke (1:13.38), Casey took first in the 50 freestyle (23.86) and the 100 backstroke (58.31), and Pilger was first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.52) and the 500 freestyle (5:02.28) for the Panthers.
Marshfield (2-1 WVC) will swim at Wausau East, and Stevens Point (1-2 WVC) will be at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.
