MOSINEE – Mosinee snapped the Stratford boys basketball team’s 24-game winning streak with a 59-49 victory in a nonconference matchup Monday night at Mosinee High School.

Stratford went 24-0 last season, reaching the WIAA Division 4 sectional final, before the season was canceled in March due to the growing concerns at the time of the coronavirus.

Playing in its season opener, with only a few leftover players from last year’s team that was senior-dominated, the Tigers shot just 35 percent from the field (17 of 49) and made only 8 of 27 3-point attempts.

Mosinee led 27-23 at halftime and pushed the lead to double digits in the second half, improving to 3-2 this season.

Cody Miller scored 19 points, making 5 of 7 from 3-point range, while the rest of the Stratford squad was only 3 of 20 from deep. Jake Skroch added 12 points for the Tigers.

Stratford will host Wausau Newman Catholic (3-0) in its home and Marawood Conference South Division opener on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
