Colby holds off Spencer in Cloverbelt East girls basketball

SPENCER – Colby held off a comeback attempt from Spencer to earn its first win of the season, topping the Rockets 55-51 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Thursday at Spencer High School.

Colby led 26-21 at halftime and held on to its slim lead, making nine of 16 free throws in the second half.

Emma Peavey, Lexi Underwood and Trista Meyer each scored 11 points for the Hornets (1-1 overall and Cloverbelt East).

Heavyn Kind had 15 points and Rebecca Mlsna scored 11 for Spencer, which drops to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the Cloverbelt East.

Spencer hosts Ashland for a nonconference game as part of a girls-boys doubleheader on Saturday. The girls game starts at 1 p.m. with the boys to follow at approximately 2:30 p.m.
