STRATFORD – Breanna Ackley scored 13 of her game-high 22 points in the second half as the Stratford girls basketball team pulled past Auburndale 39-32 in a battle of Marawood Conference South Division leaders on Friday night at Stratford High School.
Stratford held a slim 23-21 lead at halftime and Ackley outscored Auburndale on her own in the second half as the Eagles were held to 11 points in the final 18 minutes.
Stratford takes over sole possession of first place in the Marawood South, improving to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Auburndale drops to 5-2 and 4-2 in the Marawood South.
Emily Hughes added 11 points and 17 rebounds, and Ackley added 10 rebounds to her 22 points for Stratford.
Georgi Schmutzer and Kailtyn Kundinger each scored seven points to lead Auburndale.
Both teams will play nonconference games on Tuesday, with Auburndale hosting Nekoosa and Stratford traveling to Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
