AUBURNDALE – The 2020-21 Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball season is shaping up to be a good one.
Undefeated Edgar came into Auburndale hoping to hand the Eagles their second-straight loss, but the home team had another idea as Alex Willfahrt and Schuyler Gilhausen scored 22 and 20 points, respectively, to lead Auburndale to a 64-60 win on Friday night at Auburndale High School.
Willfahrt made 7 of 8 free throws and Gilhausen did his damage from behind the 3-point line, making 6 of 10 long balls to lead Auburndale to the victory.
Auburndale pulled out to a 33-24 lead by halftime and held off a second-half rally to squeeze out the win and improve to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the Marawood South. Edgar falls to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Kyle Brewster scored 18 points and Konnor Wolf added 16 for the Wildcats.
Both teams will play Marawood South games on Tuesday, with Edgar traveling to Wausau Newman Catholic and Auburndale hosting Stratford.
