SPENCER – Spencer did not make a basket in overtime, but still found a way to win, taking down Ashland 52-48 in a nonconference girls basketball game Saturday at Spencer High School.
The Rockets lived at the free throw line, and after a rough first half, was able to make enough in the second half and overtime to pull out the win.
Spencer was just 1 of 9 in the first half at the free throw line but still held a 22-18 lead at the break.
Spencer made 11 of 17 at the line in the second half, and was 8 of 10 in overtime to finish 20 of 34 overall as Ashland committed 29 fouls.
Heavyn Kind had 19 points, making 8 of 13 free throws, and Zalexis Mannigel had 12 points on the strength of an 8-for-12 performance at the line for Spencer (5-4).
Spencer returns to Cloverbelt Conference East Division play Tuesday at Loyal.
The Spencer boys lost to Ashland as part of the girls-boys doubleheader, 66-41. The Rockets are now 0-6. Game statistics were not reported.
