Athens snaps Columbus Catholic boys basketball team’s win streak at five

MARSHFIELD – Athens ended the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team’s five-game winning streak to start the season, downing the Dons 63-51 in a nonconference game Saturday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Four Bluejays scored in double figures as Dayne Diethelm had 15 points, Cooper Deidrich scored 14, Kody Lepak had 13 and Aiden Janke chipped in 12 in the victory as Athens improves to 5-1.

Columbus Catholic (5-1) also had four players hit double figures. Eden Jacobson scored 15 points, Sam Wilczek and Jadon Nienast each had 12, and Grant Olson had 10.

Columbus Catholic will be off until Dec. 30-31 when it plays at the Cranberry Classic at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
