Auburndale boys basketball outlasts Stratford in overtime

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale outscored Stratford 5-2 in overtime to earn a 36-33 win in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.

The game was tied at 31-31 after regulation and the defensive battle continued in overtime with the Eagles holding Stratford to just one basket in the extra four-minute period.

Auburndale shot just 32 percent (14 of 44) while Stratford was slightly better at 38 percent (14 of 38).

Hunter Wright scored 12 points and Alex Willfahrt added 11 for Auburndale, which improves to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the Marawood South.

Zack Seitz scored 11 points, and Camden Daul had nine points and seven rebounds for Stratford (1-3, 1-2 Marawood South).

Both teams will hold tournaments next week. Auburndale hosts Weyauwega-Fremont on Monday and will play either Neillsville or Augusta on Dec. 29.

Stratford will be at home against Bangor on Dec. 29 and play either Wittenberg-Birnamwood or Wausau East on Dec. 30.
