Assumption tips Stratford in Marawood South girls basketball

STRATFORD – Junior Ainara Martin poured in 25 points to lead Wisconsin Rapids Assumption to a 45-43 upset win over first-place Stratford in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Tuesday at Stratford High School.

Ainara made 12 of 13 free throws for the Royals, who are now 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the Marawood South. Emily Bohn added 11 points in the victory.

Stratford shot just 36 percent from the field, making 15 of 42 shots, and was just 2 of 10 from 3-point range in the loss.

Lauren Kraus led Stratford with 10 points in a balanced scoring attack. Breanna Ackley and Emily Hughes each scored nine points, and Tanaya Schillinger had eight for the Tigers, who fall to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the Marawood South. The Tigers remain one-half game ahead of Auburndale (4-2) in the division standings.

Assumption will play a Marawood crossover game at Rib Lake on Thursday before playing at Newman Catholic in Wausau on Friday. Stratford is off until Friday when it plays a crossover game at Abbotsford.
