Waupaca shocks Marshfield boys hockey in overtime

MARSHFIELD – Waupaca scored in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime, then won it just 38 seconds into the extra period, defeating Marshfield 4-3 in a nonconference boys hockey game Tuesday night at the Marshfield Ice Arena.

Marshfield led 2-0 after first-period goals from Ben Konrardy and Nick Urban.

Ian Haugen added a goal for the Tigers in the second period and Marshfield led 3-1 entering the final minutes.

Late in the third period, Waupaca suddenly rallied. Tyler Seefeldt scored with 2:06 to go and Levi Olson tied the game with just 18 seconds left to push the game to overtime.

In the extra period, Elijah Bartel scored 38 seconds in to give the Comets (4-6) the victory.

Cole Halvorsen had 27 saves in goal for Marshfield (4-4), matched by Waupaca’s Hagen Rasmussen’s 26.

Marshfield returns to Wisconsin Valley Conference action Thursday at Stevens Point.
