AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team slugged out a 35-31 win over Stratford on Monday at Auburndale High School, keeping its hopes for a Marawood Conference South Division title alive.
Annamarie Aue scored 12 points and Georgi Schmutzer added nine for Auburndale, which climbed into a virtual four-way tie for the Marawood South lead.
Combined with Edgar’s and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption’s wins on Monday, those two teams and Auburndale are now 5-2 in conference play. Stratford is 6-3, placing all four in a tie for the lead.
Stratford was hurt by its free-throw shooting, making just 9 of 20 shots at the line.
Breanna Ackley scored 11 points to lead Stratford.
Stratford will play a nonconference game at Bonduel on Tuesday before both teams have conference home games on Thursday to separate that four-way tie for first place. Stratford hosts Edgar and Auburndale will be home against Assumption.
