ALMOND – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team overcame a big, early deficit to end a mini two-game losing skid and defeat Almond-Bancroft 71-68 in a nonconference game Thursday night at Almond-Bancroft High School.
Almond-Bancroft jumped out to a 17-2 lead before the Dons chipped away and cut the deficit to 40-36 at halftime.
Columbus Catholic pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 35-28.
Four Dons scored in double figures, led by freshman Emmitt Konieczny and sophomore Grant Olson, who each scored 19 points. Eden Jacobson added 18 and Jadon Nienast had 10 in the victory.
Both teams are now 9-3 this season.
Columbus Catholic will now see a pair of matchups with Cloverbelt Conference East Division rival Neillsville – at home on Friday and at Neillsville on Monday. Columbus is 6-0 and Neillsville is 4-1 in the conference this season.
