Auburndale softball rips Athens

AUBURNDALE – Ashlyn Grimm hit a home run, drove in three and scored four times, and earned the win with a perfect inning of relief with three strikeouts as the Auburndale softball team defeated Athens 19-9 in a nonconference game to open the 2021 season Tuesday at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale scored 10 runs in the final two innings to pull away and win it in six innings via the 10-run rule.

Samantha Stanton, Erin Griesbach and Georgi Schmutzer each added two hits for Auburndale, with Stanton driving and Griesbach both driving in two runs in the victory.

Hailey Grimm started, striking out five without a walk in five innings for the Eagles.

Auburndale returns to action Friday at home against Rib Lake.
