MARSHFIELD – Kate Schilling had a hat trick and Sophie Gruenling scored twice to lift the Marshfield girls soccer team to a 7-1 win over Merrill in its first-ever home game at Heiting Community Stadium on Thursday night.

Following Chloe Malinowski’s penalty kick for a goal in the 12th minute for Merrill, Marshfield ripped off seven unanswered goals to run away with the victory.

Schilling scored twice in the first, one on a penalty kick, and Courtney Meyer added a goal just before halftime to put the Tigers up 3-1 at intermission.

Gruenling scored twice, and Avery Weister and Schilling had goals in the second half as Marshfield pulled away.

“We did not play real well in the first half but turned those plays into positive results in the second half,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We were discussing finishing corners and the ladies came thru with a very nice goal. It was nice to see four different players score goals as Kate Schilling continued to be a very big threat to score each time she touches the ball.”

Marshfield plays at D.C. Everest in a WVC match Saturday at 11 a.m.
