Columbus Catholic baseball falls to Pacelli

MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point Pacelli scored three times in the third inning to pull away and defeat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 5-1 in a nonconference baseball game Thursday at Reeths Field.

Columbus Catholic was held to two hits in the loss, scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning as Pacelli starter Ben Haemmerle threw a complete game, striking out three.

Jadon Nienast and Will Schlafke had singles for Columbus Catholic, and Brock Bennington reached on an error and scored the Dons’ lone run.

Cy Becker struck out four in 4 2/3 innings to suffer the loss as the Dons, who fall to 1-3.

Kaydin Mayek and Nick Helms each had two hits and an RBI for Pacelli (3-2).

Pacelli hosts Amherst for a nonconference doubleheader Saturday at Bukolt Park starting at 10 a.m. Columbus Catholic’s next game is Friday at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield beginning at approximately 7 p.m. The game will follow the Marshfield-Hudson game, which begins at 5 p.m.
