STRATFORD – The Stratford football team will hit the WIAA playoffs next week on a high note after dispatching of Rib Lake/Prentice 33-7 in its Marawood Conference and regular-season finale Thursday at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers finish 7-2 overall and 7-1 in the Marawood Conference, one game behind undefeated Edgar. Stratford will open the WIAA playoffs on Tuesday. The playoff brackets will be announced on Friday afternoon. The Tigers were placed in Division 5.
Stratford scored 26 unanswered points after the Hawks (3-6, 2-6 Marawood) kept it close at 7-7 after one quarter.
Stratford outgained Rib Lake/Prentice 274-87 on the ground, led by Mark Marquadt, who had 109 yards and Jamie Aschebrock, who added 81.
Trevor Maki and Teague Shoup combined for 204 yards passing for the Hawks, but they threw four interceptions.
Aschebrock had a pair of defensive touchdowns for Stratford – one on a fumble recovery and another on an interception return. Marquardt added two rushing touchdowns and Austin Shelley caught a 58-yard touchdown pass from Nick Viegut, who had 74 yards in the air.
