AUBURNDALE – Neillsville used a pair of three-run innings and stole 12 bases to sprint past Auburndale 8-5 in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Auburndale High School.

Jonah Zoschke had a two-run single in the first inning and Drew Brown had a two-run double in the third to help Neillsville build a 6-0 lead.

The Warriors led 7-0 before Auburndale scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to make a game of it.

Caden Weinfurter and Hunter Wright had RBI singles surrounding bases-loaded walks by Mason Rachu and Aden Cherney, to bring the Eagles to within three.

Neillsville plated another run in the top of the seventh and Auburndale countered, but couldn’t get any closer.

Braden Trunkel earned the win, striking out eight in 3 2/3 innings of relief for the Warriors.

Wright had two of Auburndale’s four hits.

Neillsville (4-1) hosts Loyal on Friday in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game. Auburndale returns to Marawood South play Thursday at home against Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
