Huge fourth inning lifts Greenwood/Loyal past Columbus Catholic softball

GREENWOOD – Greenwood/Loyal erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to defeat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 15-9 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game Tuesday at George Scherer Athletic Park.

Columbus scored multiple runs in each of its first four at-bats, taking a 9-3 lead after scoring three times in the top of the fourth.

Greenwood/Loyal suddenly found its offense, scoring 12 times in the bottom of the fourth. Neither team scored in the final three innings. G/L remains unbeaten in the Cloverbelt East at 3-0 and improves to 4-4 overall.

Cierra Dieringer, Hailey Zimmermann and Mattea Schlafke each had two hits. Cierra Dieringer hit a home run and drove in two runs, and Raella Dieringer also had two RBIs for the Dons.

Kayla Bremmer had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs, and Gracie North had two hits for Greenwood/Loyal.

Columbus Catholic (1-4, 1-3 Cloverbelt East) plays at Spencer on Thursday. Greenwood/Loyal will be at Owen-Withee.
