Wisconsin Rapids Assumption softball player Cristin Casey has been voted as the MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports April High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award main sponsor for the 2020-21 school year is Awards ‘n’ More of Wisconsin Rapids. The monthly award will continue through June 2021, and the winner of the MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports High School Athlete of the Year will be announced in July.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Assumption, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pacelli, Pittsville, Spencer, Stevens Point, Stratford, Thorp and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.
Casey earned nearly 900 of the approximately 2,300 votes cast during voting from May 5-11 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the April award were: Marshfield softball player Madalen Bornbach, Edgar baseball player Jordan Bunkelman, Abbotsford/Colby baseball player Ross Elmhorst and Stratford baseball player Gavin Kirsch.
Casey, the Royals’ leadoff hitter and catcher, had four hits, four runs scored and an RBI in a 15-0 win over Prentice on April 30, and went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in a 6-0 shutout of Phillips in the team’s season opener on April 27.

Casey joins Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer player Alex Edwards (September), Marshfield girls swimmer Faith Risa (October), Marshfield football player Wyatt LeMoine (November), Mosinee girls basketball player Alexis Frieboth (December), Edgar girls basketball player Makenna Guden (January), Stratford wrestler Gavin Drexler (February), and the Edgar boys basketball team (March) as winners of the award during the 2020-21 school year.
