WAUSAU – Kate Schilling had a hat trick and assisted on another goal as the Marshfield girls soccer team doubled up Wausau East 6-3 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Tuesday at East High School.

Schilling and Avery Weister scored in the opening 11 minutes to give Marshfield a quick lead, but Wausau East fought back to tie the game on goals from Lily Messman and Abby Thompson.

Schilling scored again in the final minute before halftime only to see East tie it again on another Thompson goal two minutes into the second half.

Marshfield regrouped defensively and shutout the Lumberjacks the rest of the way.

Schilling, Sophia Gruenling and Hannah Halle had goals as the Tigers took control to win going away.

“The game looks like the offenses were the story, but in reality Abby Ongna and Aly Dietsche were the headline,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “Abby played defense against one of the top players in the conference and did an outstanding job on her. Thompson scorched Rapids for four goals Monday, but Ongna was outstanding in her first role marking a high-profile player on varsity. Aly made the move from sweeper to stopper and had an outstanding game, winning the majority of high balls and being a stabilizing force in the middle.”

Marshfield improves to 3-1 overall and in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. The Tigers host Wisconsin Rapids at 7 p.m. Thursday at Heiting Community Stadium. The game will be live at zaleskisports.com.
