AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale softball team rebounded from a loss Friday to sweep two games at its home invitational on Saturday.
Phillips defeated the Eagles 8-5 on Friday, but Auburndale responded with a 9-8 win over Amherst and an 11-5 victory over Northland Pines on Saturday. All three games were played at Auburndale High School.
Phillips used a five-run sixth inning to pull ahead and take Friday’s Marawood crossover contest.
Kaitlyn Kundinger had three hits and two RBIs, and Kaydee Jo Zenner had a double and two runs batted in for Auburndale.
Auburndale trailed 8-6 to Amherst before scoring twice in the fourth to tie it, and once in the bottom of the sixth to win it.
Ashlyn Grimm went the distance on the mound to earn the win, striking out five. She also had three hits, three runs scored and three RBIs.
Samantha Stanton was 3-for-4 and scored twice, and Kundinger, Erin Griesbach and Regynn Lau all had two hits for the Eagles. Griesbach had a double and a home run, driving in two.
Hailey Grimm threw five innings to grab the win against Northland Pines, with four strikeouts.
Ashlynn Grimm ripped a pair of home runs and drove in three, and Georgi Schmutzer and Lau had two hits each.
Auburndale (7-3, 5-2 Marawood Conference South Division) plays at Marathon on Tuesday.
