STRATFORD – Hunter Ford singled to right field to plate the winning run as the Stratford baseball team walked off Wausau Newman Catholic 3-2 in Marawood Conference South Division action Tuesday at the Tiger Stadium baseball field.
Stratford had single tallies in the first and fifth innings, with Newman Catholic countering with runs in the second and seventh innings.
Tied 2-2, Ford hit a grounder through the infield to right to score Gavin Kirsch with the the winner for the Tigers, who are now 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the Marawood South, keeping pace with Edgar for first place in the conference standings.
Cam Daul picked up the win for Stratford, striking out five in two innings of relief. Kale Weisenberger allowed one run in five innings of work, striking out six.
Dylan Ackerman hit a home run for Newman and struck out three in five innings on the mound. The Cardinals fall to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play with the loss.
Riley Bauman had a double and a triple, and Ford went 2-for-4 in the win for the Tigers.
The two teams play again Thursday at Brockmeyer Park in Wausau.
