Auburndale softball holds off Marathon

MARATHON – The Auburndale softball team plated six runs in the fifth inning and held off a Marathon rally to win a Marawood Conference South Division contest 8-6 on Tuesday at Marathon High School.

Erin Griesbach hit a two-run homer in the first inning, Faith Hafermann and Hailey Grimm added two-run doubles in the fourth, and Georgi Schmutzer had an RBI single in the fourth as well for the Eagles, who improve to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the Marawood South.

Marathon drops to 6-8 and 1-4 in the Marawood South.

The two teams meet again Thursday at Auburndale High School beginning at 4:45 p.m.
