Greenwood snaps Columbus Catholic baseball’s five-game winning streak

MARSHFIELD – Greenwood smacked 11 hits and took advantage of 16 walks to defeat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 17-6 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.

Greenwood’s win ends Columbus Catholic’s five-game winning streak and allows the Indians to get back to .500 on the season at 6-6 (4-2 Cloverbelt East). Columbus is now 7-6 and 5-2 in conference play.

Xander Hinker, Austen Humke and Dakota Clark each had two hits and two RBIs to pace Greenwood, which led 12-1 after an inning and a half.

Sully Whitford had three walks and three RBIs, and Bredlau and Jonah Hinker each drove in a pair as well in the win.

Grant Olson had two of the Dons’ seven hits and also added two RBIs.

Columbus Catholic hosts first-place Neillsville at 7 p.m. Friday at Hackman Field.
