WAUSAU – Maria Christopher doubled home a pair in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Wausau Newman Catholic a 5-4 win over Stratford in a wild Marawood Conference South Division softball game Thursday at Sunnyvale Park.
Stratford trailed 1-0 until the top of the seventh when the Tigers scored four times with two outs.
Riley Flink doubled home a pair of runs and Ally Zuleger followed with a two-run single to give Stratford a 4-1 lead.
The Tigers couldn’t hold on, however, as the Cardinals rallied in the bottom of the seventh.
Ashley Jankowski reached on an error to lead off the inning, Kaitlin Kalafice followed with a walk, and Karlin Kalafice ripped a triple to plate two and bring the score to 4-3.
Paige Gold followed with a double, and after a walk and a fly out, Christopher doubled to plate the winning run for the Cardinals (5-4, 3-3 Marawood South).
Zuleger had two hits and two RBIs, and Flink had the double and two RBIs for lead the Stratford offense.
Stratford (3-11, 0-6 Marawood Conference South) is off until Tuesday when it plays at Marathon.
