MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield softball team returned to the field after more than a week off and took care of business, downing Merrill 7-3 in Wisconsin Valley Conference action Wednesday at Madison Field.
The Tigers are now 8-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, tied with Wisconsin Rapids for second place, one game behind D.C. Everest. Everest and Rapids will meet up in a season-ending doubleheader on June 8, with Marshfield traveling to play two at Stevens Point.
Courtney Donahue was strong on the mound, striking out nine and allowing three runs and five hits in a complete-game effort for Marshfield (12-4 overall). She also had two hits and two RBIs at the plate.
Madalen Bornbach hit a two-run home run, and Sandra Costa, Loryn Jakobi and Lydia Schaefer each had two hits for the Tigers, with Costa delivering three RBIs.
