WAUSAU – Stevens Point had two singles and two doubles champions to capture the team title at the 2021 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Tennis Tournament on Thursday at Wausau East High School.
Stevens Point finished with 35 points to finish off the overall WVC championship after going 5-0 in the dual meet season. The title ends a string of three-straight from Marshfield and is Stevens Point’s first since winning four in a row from 2012-15.
Noah Hlavac at No. 1 singles, Anthony Eiden at No. 4 singles, the No. 1 doubles team of Luke Hinchcliffe and Colton Thielman, and the No. 3 doubles team of Aaron Polum and Sam Kulick won titles for SPASH.
Marshfield’s No. 2 doubles team of Payton Smith and Kennan Chojnacki won the conference title with a 6-4, 6-3, win over Finn Borgnes and Nicholas Cywinski of Stevens Point.
Marshfield also had three runner-up finishes from Sam Roherty at No. 2 singles, Brian Fay at No. 4 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Josh Grissman and Justin Rachu.
Ryan Paulman (No. 1 singles), Dillon Scheuer (No. 3 singles), and the No. 3 doubles team of Ian Sennholz and Corbin Krueger all finished third for the Tigers, who were second in the team standings with 27 points, and in the overall standings.
