MARSHFIELD – Colby/Abbotsford came back from an early seven-run deficit and pulled out a 20-19 win over Marshfield Columbus Catholic in a wild Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game Friday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

The Dons led 12-2 after three innings before Colby/Abbotsford erupted with a six-run fourth inning.

The Hornets pulled ahead 16-15 with a six-run sixth, but Columbus rallied this time, scoring three in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.

It was short-lived, however, as Colby/Abby scored four times in the top of the seventh and the Dons managed just one in the bottom, coming up a run short.

Columbus was done in by seven walks and 13 fielding errors leading to 17 unearned runs.

Kylie Orth, Josie Higley and Emma Oelrich each had two hits for the Hornets, with Higley driving in four.

Cierra Dieringer and Alyssa Rueth hit home runs for the Dons, and Haley Van Whye went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.

Columbus Catholic hosts Greenwood/Loyal for its final Cloverbelt East game on Monday, while Colby/Abby will be at home against Gilman on Tuesday for its regular-season and conference finale.
