MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield baseball team swept a doubleheader from Wausau West, winning Game 1 on a walk-off single 4-3 and rolling in the second game, 13-4.
Marshfield rallied with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to win Game 1.
The game was tied 2-2 and went into extra innings, where in the top of the eighth Jake Pease singled to score Kian Garske and give the Warriors a 3-2 lead.
Trey Montalvo led off the bottom of the eighth for Marshfield with a single, moved to second on an error, and scored on a double by Peter Earll. After a groundout, Will Fetting ripped a single to score Earll with the winning run.
Urban pitched all eight innings for the Tigers, striking out five and walking two.
In Game 2, Simon Slade allowed three runs in six strong innings to earn the win for the Tigers.
Logan Homolka had three hits and scored three times, and Urban, Slade and Montalvo each had two hits for Marshfield.
Montalvo drove in three runs, and Slade and Carsten Jirschele both had two RBIs in the win.
Marshfield improves to 13-6 overall and finish its Wisconsin Valley Conference season with an 8-4 record. West is now 5-13 overall and 5-6 in the WVC.
West finishes its conference schedule Wednesday at Wisconsin Rapids, while Marshfield will play a nonconference game at Stratford.
