Columbus Catholic softball blanks Port Edwards in WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal

PORT EDWARDS – Hailey Zimmermann tossed a three-hit shutout and Sam Casperson drove in a pair of runs to lead the Columbus Catholic softball team to an 8-0 run over Port Edwards in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal on Monday.

The No. 5 seed Columbus Catholic took advantage of eight walks and six errors by the No. 4 seed Port Edwards (6-10).

The Dons (7-9) moves on to a D-5 regional final at No. 1 seed Bangor (14-4) on Wednesday.

Zimmermann struck out six and walked three in the complete game.

Casperson had a single and a double, and scored twice. Breanna Duda and Mattea Schlafke also had singles, and Schlafke had two runs scored for the Dons.
