EDGAR – Auburndale scored twice in the first and fifth innings, and Hailey Grimm did the rest on the mound as the Eagles shutout Edgar 4-0 in a WIAA Division 4 softball regional semifinal Monday at Edgar High School.
No. 5 seed Auburndale (16-5) moves on to a D-4 regional final at undefeated and No. 1 seed Blair-Taylor (25-0) on Wednesday. Edgar finishes its season with a 13-7 record.
Grimm struck out four, walked three and scattered five hits in earning the shutout for Auburndale.
Kaitlyn Kundinger had an RBI triple in the first inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Erin Griesbach as the Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
The score held until the fifth, Griesbach had an RBI double to score Kundinger, and Georgi Schmutzer reached on an fielder’s choice to plate Griesbach, making it 4-0.
Leah Davis and Skylee Manecke each had doubles for Edgar, which was shutout for just the second time this season.
