SCHOFIELD – Marshfield pounded out 14 hits, four for extra bases, and the Tigers rolled to a 10-2 win over No. 1 seed D.C. Everest in a WIAA Division 1 softball regional final Wednesday at D.C. Everest High School.
The fifth-seeded Tigers scored four runs in the third and seventh innings, and added two in the fifth, as they cruised to the win over the Wisconsin Valley Conference champion Evergreens and claim a regional championship.
Marshfield (15-6) moves on to a WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinal on Monday against WVC rival Stevens Point. The game will be held at Woyak Park in Plover and begin at 4:30 p.m., and will be live at zaleskisports.com.
Marshfield pitcher Courtney Donahue was on top of her game again, scattering five hits and one walk while striking out eight in a complete-game effort. The Tigers’ bats did the rest.
Loyrn Jakobi had a two-run single, Brianna Jakobi scored on an error and Taylor Barwick knocked in a run with a single to give Marshfield a 4-0 lead in the third.
An error and an RBI single by Haylee Schmidt cut the deficit in half for the Evergreens in the bottom of the inning, but that would be all they got against Donahue.
Loryn Jakobi doubled and scored on a triple by Barwick, and Brooklyn Bohman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate two runs in the fifth, making it 6-2.
The Tigers finished off the win with a four-run seventh. Shyla Brogan had an RBI double, Bohman bunted home a run, Brogan scored on a sacrifice fly by Donahue, and Brianna Jakobi plated the final run with a single.
Brianna Jakobi and Loryn Jakobi each finished 3-for-5, and Barwick, Brogan and Bohman all had two hits for the Tigers.
