MARSHFIELD – A five-run third inning helped push the Marshfield Chaparrals baseball team to a 9-4 win over the Pittsville River Bandits on Wednesday night at Jack Hackman Field.
Pittsville struck first with a run in the opening inning thanks to a Marshfield error and held on to the lead until the third, when the Chaparrals knocked out Pittsville starter Sawyer Ladick with a five-run frame.
Caleb Schillinger had a bases-loaded double to score three, Jake Earll followed with an RBI single, and Caleb Krommanakker walked with the bases loaded.
Isaiah Baierl had an RBI triple and scored on a groundout by Nathan Krommenakker in the fifth inning, the Chaps added two more in the sixth on back-to-back RBI doubles by Will Lee and Schillinger.
Nathan Krommenakker earned the win for the Chaparrals, allowing two runs in five innings with three strikeouts.
Marshfield improves to 7-4 and returns to action on Monday as part of the Baseball Day in Marshfield event. The Marshfield Junior Legion plays Eau Claire at 1 p.m., the Senior Legion takes on Eau Claire at 4 p.m., and the Chaparrals will play the Wausau River Hawks at 7 p.m. The Senior Legion and Chaps games will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
