Plover knocks off Marshfield Legion baseball

MARSHFIELD – Plover jumped on Marshfield early with nine runs in the first three innings and cruised to a 10-2 win in American Legion baseball action Monday night at Jack Hackman Field.

Plover got to Marshfield starter Nick Urban right away, with Thomas Hunt ripping an RBI single and scoring on an error to give the Black Sox in a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

Riley Bauman had an RBI single in the bottom of the first for Marshfield to cut its deficit in half, before the Black Sox exploded in the second.

Tommy Drohner had an RBI single with the bases loaded and an error allowed two more runs to score. Austin Beyer followed with an RBI double and Marcus Jaworski knocked in two more with another double to put Plover up 8-1.

Beyer added an RBI single in the third and Kenny Schultz scored on a groundout by Jon Nafe in the sixth for the Black Sox’ other two runs.

Marshfield scored its second run in the fifth. Nick Urban singled, Bauman doubled and Chase Higgins plated a run with a single.

Drew Kedrowicz earned the win, going six innings with four strikeouts for Plover.

Both teams return to action Tuesday. Plover is at Merrill at 7 p.m. and Marshfield will host Wausau at 7:15 p.m.
