SCHOFIELD – The Everest Merchants scored multiple runs in the four-straight innings to topple the Marshfield Chaparrals 12-1 in amateur baseball action Tuesday night at Simon Field.
Marshfield (9-6) took a quick 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Caleb Kormmenakker in the top of the first inning. That was all the Chaparrals could muster, however, against Everest pitcher Heinrich Walder.
Walder scattered eight hits and walked just one, while striking out five in a seven-inning complete-game effort.
Everest pulled ahead to stay with two runs in the third inning and added 10 more during the next three innings to end the game after 6½ innings via the 10-run rule.
Brock Warren had three hits and two RBIs, Nic Barnes had a pair of doubles and three RBIs, and Wade Farmer and Brandon Kranz each had two hits and scored twice for Everest.
Isaiah Baierl, Nathan Krommenakker and Shawn O’Connell all had two hits for Marshfield.
The Chaparrals will host the Pittsville River Bandits at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jack Hackman Field.
