Fond du Lac outlasts Marshfield football in 2021 opener

FOND DU LAC – Brayden Eigenbrodt scored three second-half touchdowns to push Fond du Lac to a 31-12 win over Marshfield in the 2021 football opener for both teams on Friday night at Fruth Field.

Marshfield’s Matt Trulen had a 15-yard touchdown run and Fond du Lac’s Connor Klapperich raced 75 yards for a score in the second quarter, and the Cardinals led 7-6 at halftime.

Trevor Foemmel ran 15 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter for the Tigers, but Eigenbrodt took over as he scored a 2-yard TD run in the third quarter and had scoring runs of 3 and 4 yards in the fourth to help Fond du Lac pull away.

The Cardinals added a safety late to finish off the scoring.

Fond du Lac outgained the Tigers 337-192. Foemmel finished with 58 yards rushing and 70 yards passing, and Trulen added 51 rushing yards and a 32-yard reception for Marshfield.

Marshfield will play its home opener against Slinger next Friday, Aug. 27. The game, which starts at 7 p.m., will be live at zaleskisports.com. Fond du Lac will continue nonconference action as well as it travels to Franklin.
