SUN PRAIRIE – The Marshfield volleyball team won four of six matches on Saturday to finish in fifth place at the Sun Prairie Invitational.
The Tigers, who went 3-0 in pool play on Friday, lost their first match to Watertown 22-25, 25-17, 16-14, before defeating De Pere 25-18, 25-23, to finish pool play 4-1.
In bracket play, Marshfield lost to DeForest 22-25, 25-23, 15-10; before defeating Watertown 25-17, 25-17; Madison Edgewood 25-16, 25-11; and De Pere 27-25, 25-19.
Casey Frankland had 49 kills and 27 digs, Abby Ongna added 43 kills and 35 digs, and Caitlyn Pernsteiner had 37 kills and 12 service aces to lead the way for Marshfield.
Reinya Balderson racked up 124 assists in the six matches for the Tigers. Elise Uphoff had a team-high 44 digs on defense.
“This is always such a great tournament for us to come to,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “We get to play teams we wouldn’t get to see otherwise, and we play a ton of volleyball. We saw a lot of growth on our team and are excited to begin conference play next week.”
Marshfield hosts Stratford for a nonconference match on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
