Marshfield girls tennis defeats Wisconsin Rapids in WVC opener

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield girls tennis team opened Wisconsin Valley Conference play with a dominating 6-1 win over Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday at Lincoln High School.

The Tigers swept the three doubles matches, and won three of the four singles matches, six coming in straight sets.

Earning victories for Marshfield in doubles were Abigail Forst and Loryn Jakobi at No. 1, as they earned a three-set 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 win; and Emma Tucker and Maren Hamill at No. 2, and Sam Ridgway and Danielle Minsaas at No. 3 in straight sets.

Sydney Newmier at No. 1, Sonia Dissanayaka at No. 3, and Lucky Luedtke at No. 4 won in straight sets in singles for the Tigers.

Hayley Jensen earned Wisconsin Rapids’ lone win, defeating Allison Kloos 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles.

Marshfield hosts Merrill and Wisconsin Rapids travels to Stevens Point for WVC duals on Tuesday.
