Columbus Catholic soccer doubles up Northland Lutheran

KROENENWETTER – Grant Olson and Alex Edwards scored in a five-minute span of the second half to lift the Columbus Catholic soccer team to a 4-2 win over Northland Lutheran in a Central Wisconsin Conference clash on Thursday.

Edwards and Cy Becker scored in the first half as the Dons (4-1, 2-0 Central Wisconsin Conference) took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

After Northland Lutheran, which was playing its season opener, scored 11:02 into the second half, Olson gave Columbus the lead for good 5½ minutes later. Edwards added his second goal in the 61st minute to finish off the victory.

The Dons outshot Northland Lutheran 30-7, and goalkeeper Lucas Kreklau had to make just two saves.

Columbus Catholic hots Gresham/Bowler for a conference game at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Griese Park. Northland Lutheran will travel to Stevens Point Pacelli on Tuesday.
