WAUSAU – The first Wisconsin Valley Conference volleyball meet of the season was held Saturday at Wausau West High School with nine dual meets contested.
Marshfield finished 2-1 to move its WVC record to 4-2 overall this fall. The Tigers lost to Merrill in five sets, 19-25, 25-20, 25-18, 13-25, 15-12, and swept Stevens Point 25-14, 25-17, 25-21, and Wausau East 25-20, 25-18, 25-18.
Abby Ongna had a team-high 50 kills, Reinya Balderson had 114 assists, and Elise Uphoff had 59 digs for Marshfield.
Caitlyn Pernsteiner added 25 kills, Casey Frankland had 23 kills and seven service aces, and Alyssa Foemmel had 40 digs as well for the Tigers.
D.C. Everest won both of its matches, defeating Wisconsin Rapids 3-0 and Wausau West 3-1, to remain unbeaten in atop the Wisconsin Valley Conference season standings at 5-0. Merrill, which lost to Wisconsin Rapids 3-1 and also defeated Wausau West 3-1, is now 4-1 in conference play.
