WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Auburndale boys won the team title and Charles Jewell was the race winner at the Assumption Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Tri-City Golf Course.
Jewell won the boys race in 18:22, just two seconds ahead of Pittsville’ Sam Bowden. Athens’ Nathan Wolf was a close third at 18:27, teammate Andrew Schaer was fourth in 18:30 and Assumption’s Blake Lobner fifth in 18:32.
Auburndale had its next four runners finish in the top 15 to help the Eagles earn the team title with 35 points. Athens was second, Pittsville third, Amherst fourth and Edgar fifth. Assumption, Nekoosa, Gresham/Bowler and Port Edwards all had incomplete squads.
Ian Grosskopf took sixth (18:32), Mason White Eagle seventh (18:32), Gavin White Eagle 10th (18:56), and Parker Empey 15th (19:52) for Auburndale.
Amherst won the girls team title with 27 points, edging out Wisconsin Rapids Assumption by just one point. Edgar was third, Pittsville fourth, and Auburndale, Athens and Nekoosa had incomplete squads.
Assumption’s Ainara Sainz de Rozas won the girls race in 20:04, nearly a minute ahead of Amherst’s Saige Peterson (20:52).
Auburndale had all four of its runners finish in the top 20. Jordyn Karl was fourth (21:08), McKenna Zieher finished ninth (21:42), Autumn Richardson was 10th (22:00), and Hope Schulte was 18th (23:20).
Auburndale will compete at the Athens Invitational on Sept. 30.
