Stratford football turns to passing game to dismantle Weyauwega-Fremont

WEYAUWEGA – The Stratford football team turned to its passing game on Friday night and it worked to perfection.

The Tigers’ two quarterbacks passed for 241 yards and three touchdowns and Stratford cruised to a 48-7 win over Weyauwega-Fremont in a Central Wisconsin Conference Large Division game at Weyauwega-Fremont High School.

With the win, Stratford qualifies for the WIAA playoffs for a 30th-straight season.

Braeden Schueller was a perfect 5-for-5 for 115 yards and a 64-yard touchdown to Elijah Lucio just 3½ minutes into the game. Dillon Kirsch was 5-for-8 for 126 yards and two scores – a 47-yarder to Elijah Lucio and 10 yards to Caden Bruesewitz.

Raife Smart added 50 yards rushing on six carries as the Tigers racked up 168 yards on the ground as well, outgaining Weyauwega-Fremont (0-7, 0-5 CWC Large) 409-136 overall.

Schueller added an 11-yard touchdown run, Kaden Griesmer had two rushing scores, and Lucio had a 65-yard punt return for the Tigers (6-1, 4-1 CWC Large).

Stratford hosts rival Spencer/Columbus on Friday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. before playing at undefeated Amherst on Oct. 15 to finish the regular season. Both games will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com.
