RICE LAKE – Stevens Point’s Riley Pechinski earned medalist honors and a state tournament berth at the WIAA Division 1 girls golf sectional Tuesday at Turtleback Golf Club.
Pechinski fired a one-over par 72 to win the sectional title, finishing two strokes ahead of Tomah’s Sophie Pokela.
Tomah won the team title with a 329 and New Richmond was second with a 331 to earn the two automatic qualifying spots at the 2021 WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament, which will be held at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison on Oct. 11-12.
Marshfield’s lone sectional qualifier, freshman Brielle Lenz, tied for 35th with a 101.
Pechinski was one of three individual qualifiers for the state meet.
Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids tied for fifth in the team standings with scores of 373.
In addition to Pechinski, Ava Frederiksen had a 90, Claire Viau shot a 104, Bella Nimm had a 107 and Skylar Miilan had a 139 for Stevens Point.
Faith Cour led Wisconsin Rapids with an 87. Dylan Gruszynski added a 93, Kaitlyn Hafermann had a 96, Logan Vollert shot a 97, and Claire Ninneman had a 107 for Wisconsin Rapids.
