STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield volleyball team improved to 6-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, moving one-half game behind the leader, with a 3-0 sweep of Stevens Point on Thursday at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
Marshfield won 25-22, 25-13, 25-21, and now stands just one-half game behind D.C. Everest in the conference standings after the Evergreens were upset by Wausau West.
Elise Uphoff had 17 digs, Casey Frankland had 14 kills, and Reinya Balderson had 36 assists to lead Marshfield in each category.
Abby Ongna and Rylee Corteen each had 10 kills, Ongna had 13 digs, and Balderson had 14 digs as well for the Tigers.
Stevens Point statistics were not reported. The Panthers are now 3-5 in the WVC.
Both teams will compete at the second Wisconsin Valley Conference meet of the season on Saturday at Merrill. Marshfield will take on Wisconsin Rapids and have a rematch with D.C. Everest, and Stevens Point will play Wausau West and D.C. Everest as well.
