WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield boys finished third and the girls team was fifth at the Wisconsin Rapids Jim Newman Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Ridges Golf Course.
Henry Hoerneman was 11th (17:05.4) to lead the way for the Marshfield boys, which finished with 118 points, eight behind second-place West Salem. Stevens Point earned the team win with four finishers in the top seven and 33 points.
Graham Lonsdale was 23rd (17:54.6), Thomas Cashmer 24th (17:59.4), Owen Hoerneman 26th (18:03.5) and James Ketterer 36th (18:21.4) as well for Marshfield.
Mateo Alvarado Venegas of Sun Prairie won the boys race in 15:50.1, four seconds ahead of Jack Boerger of Sauk Prairie.
Wisconsin Rapids won the girls team title with 86 points, nine better than Sun Prairie. Marshfield was fifth with 136.
Marshfield got a top-10 finish from senior Eliana Kanitz, who took ninth in 20:48.6.
Raquel Reuter of Darlington won the girls race in 19:47.1, with Wisconsin Rapids Assumption’s Ainara Sainz de Rozas second in 20:11.6.
Kairi Kim finished 17th (21:26.3), Calleigh Kanitz 33rd (22:23.5), Michaela Dick 34th (22:23.8), and Meghan Jaeger 43rd (22:36.3) for Marshfield.
Marshfield will compete at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet at Nine Mile Forest in Rib Mountain next Saturday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m.
