PHILLIPS – Behind a third-place finish from Ainara Sainz de Rozas, the Wisconsin Rapids Assumption girls earned the team title at the 2021 Marawood Conference Cross Country Meet on Thursday at Moonlight Lane.
Sainz de Rozas was third in 20:48.1 finishing behind Chequamegon’s Autumn Michalski (19:55.5) and Claudia Lasiowski (20:41.2).
Grace Dolan finished seventh (21:51.1), Maddie Meinel was 17th (23:03.6), Clara Kubis took 18th (23:04.2) and Amber Schoenick was 24th (23:44.3) to round out the scoring runners for Assumption, which finished with 56 points, three better than Marathon.
Stratford was third with 63 and Edgar sixth with 154. Auburndale and Athens had incomplete teams.
Auburndale had its three runners all finish in the top 11 as Jordyn Karl took fifth (21:30.7), Mckenna Zieher was eighth (21:52.2) and Autumn Richardson was 11th (22:24.3)
Kayla Casperson was 10th (22:14.5), Breleigh Skaya took 12th (22:28.0) and Ella Heidmann was 13th (22:33.5) to lead Stratford.
Phillips edged Athens 58-60 to capture the boys team title, with Auburndale third with 85, Stratford sixth with 123 and Edgar eighth with 251. Assumption had just two runners.
Jacob Smith of Marathon won the boys race in 18:11.4, three seconds ahead of Phillips’ Connor Gabay. Athens’ Andrew Schaer was fourth in 18:34.8, Charles Jewell of Auburndale fourth in 18:40.6, and two more Bluejays came in fifth and sixth as Nathan Wolf finished in 18:45.5 and Brooks Kraus was sixth in18:45.5.
Mason White Eagle gave Auburndale another top-10 finish as he took ninth in 18:54.3.
Ethan Heeg was 11th (19:03.8), Lance Krieg 12th (19:04.5) and Cree DeFoe 17th (19:16.5) to lead the Stratford boys.
