WAUNAKEE – Waunakee, the No. 1-ranked team in the state in Division 2, was just too much for Marshfield to handle as the Warriors cruised to a 54-14 victory in a WIAA Division 2 Level 1 football playoff game Friday night at Waunakee High School.

Waunakee (10-0), the top seed in its Division 2 bracket, will host a Level 2 game against No. 4 seed River Falls on Oct. 29. River Falls (8-3) topped La Crosse Central 29-6 on Friday.

Waunakee raced out to a 28-0 lead by the second quarter and never looked back.

Marshfield finishes its season 4-6.

Waunakee pushed the lead to 42-0 before Trevor Foemmel hit Luke LeMoine with a 26-yard touchdown pass late in the first half.

The Foemmel-LeMoine duo hooked up again in the third quarter on a 17-yard touchdown to cut it to 42-14 before the Warriors finished off the win with two more scores.

Wauankee outgained Marshfield 433-265 and forced two Tigers’ turnovers.

Foemmel finished 11-for-20 for 171 yards and added 43 rushing yards. LeMoine caught seven of the passes for 131 yards.
