Wittenberg-Birnamwood edges Auburndale boys basketball in season opener

WITTENBERG – Wittenberg-Birnamwood scored all six of its points in overtime at the free throw line and edged Auburndale 49-46 in the boys basketball season opener for both teams on Tuesday at Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School.

The game was tied 43-43 going into overtime, where the Chargers made 6 of 10 free throws to earn the victory.

Simon Scharer had 16 points and Ben Wesolowski added 12 for Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

Lucas Yeske had 16 points and six rebounds, and Alex Willfahrt scored 10 points for Auburndale.

Auburndale returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 30, for its Marawood Conference South Division opener at home against Marathon.
