MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield gymnastics team opened up its Great Northern Conference season with a 130.55-124.1 win over Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday at Marshfield High School.
Hanna Merkel won the uneven bars (8.6) and the balance beam (8.65), and was second in the floor exercise (8.4) to win the all-around title with a score of 33.7 for Marshfield.
Sophie Nikolay finished second in the vault (8.5) and Ellie Jensen was second in the beam (8.55) as well for the Tigers.
Abby Peitsch won the JV all-around with a score of 29.4 as Marshfield won 121.4-111.6.
Both teams will compete at invitationals on Saturday. Marshfield will be at Tomah and Wisconsin Rapids at Watertown.
